U.S. coal output estimated to increase 3.39% WoW in wk ending Sep 13, EIA
Coal production in the U.S. was estimated to rebound to 10.87 million short tons (9.86 million tonnes) over the week ending September 13. The figure was up 3.39% from a week ago and 3.01% from the previous year, according to data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA) on September 18.
Coal production in Wyoming and Montana combined was estimated to be 4.6 million short tons in the given period, up 4.14% on the week but down 4.58% year on year.
Illinois's coal output was estimated to increase 4.42% week on week and 7.97% on the year to 718,300 short tons in the same period, while coal production in Appalachian was estimated at 3.36 million short tons, up 2.1% from a week earlier and 8.79% from a year ago.
U.S. coal output totaled 382 million short tons in the year to date, a 6.5% rise from 359 million short tons in the same period last year, the EIA data showed.
U.S. rail coal shipments were 61,357 wagons over the week, up 430 from a week ago but down 1,660 from the preceding year. The year-to-date rail coal shipments totaled 2.14 million wagons, up 4.2% year on year.
