Taiwan Jun coal imports fall over 20% MoM, hit 4-month low
Taiwan's coal imports fell sharply in June from the previous month, dropping over 20% to a four-month low and a fresh historical low for the same month.
Taiwan's coal imports at 4.37 million tonnes in June 2026, down 1.42% from 4.44 million tonnes a year earlier and 21.97% lower than 5.61 million tonnes in May, showd preliminary data from Taiwan's customs.

Coal import value in June stood at $636 million, up 21.16% year on year but down 16.65% from a month earlier, implying an average import price of $145.39/t, up 22.91% year on year and 6.81% month on month.
Australia remained the top supplier in June, with imports at 2.42 million tonnes, up 13.87% year on year but down 32.05% from a month ago, accounting for 55.38% of Taiwan's total coal imports, down from 63.6% in May. Imports from Indonesia fell 40.13% year on year and 33.78% month on month to 757,900 tonnes. Russian coal imports surged 208.75% year on year and 69.38% month on month to 514,400 tonnes.
By coal type, Taiwan imported 3.88 million tonnes of bituminous coal in June, up 6.11% year on year but down 18.17% from the previous month. Imports of other coal totaled 483,400 tonnes, down 37.53% year on year and 43.85% month on month.
For January-June, Taiwan's cumulative coal imports fell 2.62% year on year to 25.59 million tonnes, with import value rising 9.75% to $3.38 billion.
Meanwhile, coke imports in June were 6,800 tonnes, up 73.34% year on year but down 50.64% from a month earlier, with import value at $1.79 million, up 78.15% year on year but down 46.08% month on month. January-June cumulative coke imports totaled 61,100 tonnes, down 9.28% year on year.
Liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports in June stood at 1.71 million tonnes, down 9.9% year on year and 17.7% from a month earlier, with import value at $1.33 billion, up 40.08% year on year but down 19.05% month on month. January-June cumulative LNG imports edged up 0.23% year on year to 11.22 million tonnes.
