Shanxi Coal International Energy Group Co., Ltd. reported a 50.53% year-on-year drop in net profit over the third quarter of 2025, hitting 391 million yuan ($54.9 million).

Revenue for the same period fell 28.27% on the year to 5.67 billion yuan, the company said in its latest results statement.

During the first nine months, its net profit dropped 49.74% from a year ago to 1.05 billion yuan. Cumulative revenue amounted to 15.33 billion yuan, a 30.2% decline compared with the same period in 2024.

The company ascribed the decrease in both revenue and net profit to plunging coal prices and lower sales volumes amid a market downturn.

During the third quarter, the company's raw coal output dropped 3.31% year on year to 8.82 million tonnes, while total sales of commercial coal fell 1.03% on the year to 12.15 million tonnes. It sold 9.47 million tonnes of self-produced coal, up 37.24% on the year, and 2.68 million tonnes of trading coal, falling 50.17% from a year prior.

Average price for self-produced coal sales in July-September stood at 509.31 yuan/t, with costs amounting to 253.83 yuan/t. The price of trading coal averaged 456.82 yuan/t in the period.

Sales revenue slid 29.7% to 5.46 billion yuan in the third quarter, while gross profit descended 22.48% to 2.18 billion yuan. The operating costs stood at 3.28 billion yuan, 33.8% lower than a year a-ago level.

Shanxi Coal International Energy Group is a leading coal producer in China. Its coal business encompasses thermal coal, coking coal, anthracite and semi-anthracite. These products are primarily used in power generation and metallurgical industries.
