Russia's seaborne coal exports fell in September 2026 from both the year-ago and month-ago levels, Kpler ship-tracking data showed.

Exports totaled 13.81 million tonnes in September, down 4.23% year on year and 17.41% from a month earlier.

China's mainland remained the largest destination, taking 5.93 million tonnes, down 15.24% from the previous month but up 11.07% from a year earlier. Shipments to China's mainland accounted for 43% of Russia's total exports.

Exports to South Korea were 1.78 million tonnes, down 25.88% month on month and 25.58% year on year. Shipments to India fell to 1.37 million tonnes, down 50.34% from the previous month and 28.49% from a year earlier.

Russia shipped 1.18 million tonnes to Turkey in September, down 29.91% month on month and 49.38% year on year. Exports to Vietnam rose to 976,400 tonnes, up 25.04% from the previous month and 67.34% from a year earlier.

In the first nine months of 2026, Russia's seaborne coal exports totaled 135.86 million tonnes, up 7.25% year on year. Exports to China's mainland reached 46.06 million tonnes, up 2.21% from the same period last year, accounting for 34% of the total.
