Indonesia's coal production reached a record 817.48 million tonnes in 2025, with more than 63% shipped to export markets, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said in its final output data.
Exports totaled 523.35 million tonnes, accounting for 63.89% of the full-year production. Domestic market obligation supply reached 264.88 million tonnes, or 30.2%, mainly serving the power and smelting sectors. The remaining 48.25 million tonnes, or 5.9%, was held as inventory.
In the domestic market, the power sector was the largest consumer at 141.4 million tonnes, followed by smelters at 76.3 million tonnes. Cement, paper, fertilizer and textile industries accounted for 8.78 million, 5.42 million, 1.02 million and 0.86 million tonnes respectively, with other sectors consuming 13.1 million tonnes.
For 2026, however, the ministry has approved coal production quotas of only around 600 million tonnes under the RKAB work plan and budget.
In other minerals, Indonesia produced 320 million tonnes of nickel ore, 102 million tonnes of copper ore, 98,700 tonnes of tin ore, 33.75 million tonnes of bauxite and 81.2 tonnes of gold in 2025.
