Indonesia's seaborne coal exports fell month on month in June 2026, slipping back below 40 million tonnes, though volumes remained significantly above the low levels seen a year earlier.

Indonesia exported 39.22 million tonnes of seaborne coal in June, up 17.04% from the year-ago low of 33.51 million tonnes, but down 1.97% from 40.01 million tonnes in May, showed Kpler vessel tracking data.

Exports to Asia totaled 38.65 million tonnes in June, up 15.08% year on year but down 2.59% from the previous month, accounting for 98.5% of total shipments, slightly above May's 98%.

China remained the top destination, receiving 16.52 million tonnes, up 50.79% from a year earlier but down 2.54% from a month ago.

Exports to India stood at 6.49 million tonnes, down 9.31% year on year but up 4.37% month on month. Shipments to the Philippines totaled 3.32 million tonnes, up 13.86% from a year earlier and 3.89% from the prior month.

Exports to Vietnam reached 2.58 million tonnes, up 29.11% year on year but down 3% month on month. Shipments to Malaysia were 2.37 million tonnes, up 27.92% from a year earlier and 10.08% from the previous month.

In the first half of 2026, Indonesia's cumulative seaborne coal exports totaled 227 million tonnes, down 0.44% year on year. Exports to China during the period reached 87.49 million tonnes, up 6.21% from a year earlier.
