India's coal output nears demand, exports on the horizon, minister says
India's coal production is nearing a stage of meeting domestic demand, placing the country on the verge of selectively exploring coal exports while prioritizing domestic requirements, according to The Economic Times, citing an announcement from Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy.
Reddy also stated that the country is enhancing coal output, improving quality, and optimizing the supply chain. Upcoming reforms in the coal sector aim to promote uniformity and standardization within the industry.
He emphasized that these reforms would ensure that all state-owned enterprises adhere to consistent practices, clear benchmarks, and predictable outcomes.
Meanwhile, the minister called for the development of a focused, time-bound plan to maximize equipment utilization, increase coal asset capacity, and improve operational efficiency.
Reddy further advocated for stricter safety regulations, enhanced supervision, and greater accountability to achieve zero accidents at mines.
