India's coal industry allocates $1.03 bln to advance cleaner, sustainable energy transition
As India moves toward its Net-Zero 2070 goal, the Ministry of Coal is taking significant steps to accelerate the country's clean energy transition. The government has approved 8,500 crore (around $1.03 billion) to support coal and lignite gasification projects, promoting cleaner energy alternatives and reducing reliance on traditional coal combustion.
The ministry also implemented other strategic measures to reduce environmental impact, expand renewable energy capacity, and restore coal mining regions, all in alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for a greener, more sustainable India.
Nearly 3,000 hectares of land across coal-bearing regions have been designated for plantation efforts under the Mission GREEN (Grow, Restore, Enrich and Empower Nature) initiative, contributing to ecological restoration and improving environmental balance.
Furthermore, coal PSUs collectively installed over 2 GW of renewable energy capacity, marking a significant shift toward sustainable power generation.
