India's CIL Jun coal output down 0.69% YoY, sales up 7.52%
State-run Coal India Limited (CIL) produced 57.4 million tonnes of coal in June 2026, dipping 0.69% from 57.8 million tonnes a year ago.
The output volume, however, was 2.32% higher than the month-ago 56.1 million tonnes, according to a company statement.

CIL's coal sales came in at 65.8 million tonnes in June, a 7.52% rise year on year yet declining 1.35% month on month, partly due to monsoon-induced production disruptions, data showed.
In addition, the company produced 169.6 million tonnes of coal during the first quarter of FY2027 (April-June 2026), down 7.47% from the 183.3 million tonnes in the same period last year. This was primarily driven by reduced output from Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL) and Bharat Coking Coal Ltd (BCCL), though stronger performances elsewhere partially offset the slide.
With the state-owned miner focusing on sales and drawing down inventories, offtakes outpaced production in Q1 FY27. April-June sales gained 3.51% year on year to 197.7 million tonnes, data showed, benefiting from resilient demand from power and industrial sectors.
Looking forward, the monsoon's progress, mine productivity and coal evacuation infrastructure will be critical in shaping CIL's coal output trends over the coming months. While coal sales are expected to remain underpinned by consistent power demand, a sustained improvement in production will be essential to ensure adequate coal supply through the monsoon season.
