India's CIL Apr coal output down 9.7% YoY, sales down 2.0%
State-run Coal India Limited (CIL) produced 56.1 million tonnes of coal in April 2026, sliding 9.7% from 62.1 million tonnes a year ago.
The output volume was also 33.6% lower than the month-ago 84.5 million tonnes, according to a company statement.

CIL's coal sales came in at 63.2 million tonnes in April, a 2.0% decline year on year and 9.1% decrease month on month, data showed.
CIL, accounting for over 80% of India's domestic coal output, churned out 768.1 million tonnes of coal in FY26. It aims to increase coal production to 1 billion tonnes by FY2028-29 to reduce dependence on coal imports.
