India churned out 92.68 million tonnes of coal in November 2025, up 2.06% on the year and 19.7% on the month, reaching the highest level so far in this fiscal year, according to preliminary data from the Ministry of Coal.

Of that, state-run Coal India Limited (CIL) produced 67.99 million tonnes of coal in November, up 1.21% on the year and 20.59% on the month. India's another state-owned coal miner, Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), produced 5.34 million tonnes of coal, down 15.37% on the year yet rising 12.66% on the month.

Meanwhile, coal output from captive and other coal mines increased 11.72% on the year and 18.57% on the month to 19.35 million tonnes.

Over the first eight months of the current fiscal year (April-November 2025), India's total coal production dipped 1.43% on the year to 619 million tonnes. CIL's and SCCL's output stood at 454 million (-3.71% YoY) and 37.98 million tonnes (-5.4% YoY), respectively. Coal output from captive and other coal mines rose 9.11% to 128 million tonnes.

In November, India sold 85.62 million tonnes of coal, sliding 0.18% year over year. Coal sales of CIL and SCCL came in at 63.46 million (0.04% YoY) and 5.13 million tonnes (-9.71% YoY), respectively, while that from captive and other coal mines edged up 2.26% to 17.04 million tonnes.

India sold 612 million tonnes of coal during April-November, down 1.06% from the year prior. Among this, CIL sold 480 million tonnes of coal, down 2.71%. SCCL sold 38.5 million tonnes of coal, down 4.69% on the year. Coal sales from captive and other coal mines totaled 134 million tonnes, up 6.61% on the year.

In November, the nation supplied 66.83 million tonnes of coal to the power sector, dropping 4.11% year on year, accounting for 78% of its total sales. The country also shipped 1.55 million tonnes of coal to the steel sector, surging 60.83% on the year, and delivered 0.73 million tonnes to the cement sector, a 1.66% increase.
