China imported 33.32 million tonnes of thermal coal (non-coking coal) in November 2025, growing 6.99% month on month, according to the latest customs data.

The figure, however, was down 21.94% year on year, marking the tenth consecutive month of yearly decrease, showed data from the General Administration of Customs.

The imports were valued at $2.14 billion, falling 34.42% from a year ago but up 10.58% from the preceding month.

The average import price was calculated at $64.23/t, diving 15.98% year on year yet gaining 3.4% month on month.

Total thermal coal imports stood at 327.04 million tonnes in the first 11 months, 13.69% lower than the year-ago level, with the value down 30.71% to $21.09 billion. That put the average import price at $64.49/t over January-November, a 19.72% drop year on year.
