Indonesia's Feb coal exports hit 8-month low, Kpler
Indonesia's coal exports continued their downward trajectory in February 2026, marking the second consecutive monthly decline and hitting an eight-month low. Shipments to China, in particular, recorded a significant drop during the month, according to the latest vessel-tracking data.

February coal exports totaled 36.45 million tonnes, representing a 7.7% decline from the same period last year and a 4.13% decrease from 38.02 million tonnes in January, data from Kpler showed.
Indonesia shipped 34.74 million tonnes to Asian destinations in February, accounting for 95.4% of its total coal exports during the month. The volume to Asia registered an 11.76% YoY decline and a 7.7% MoM decrease.
China remained the largest destination for Indonesian coal in February, receiving 14.35 million tonnes. However, this represented a 4.52% decline YoY and a substantial 9.51% drop from January.

India imported 6.58 million tonnes of Indonesian coal in February, down 23.42% from a year ago and 3.59% lower than the previous month. Shipments to South Korea reached 2.42 million tonnes, marking notable growth of 24.47% YoY and 5.49% MoM.
Other major Southeast Asian markets showed weaker performance. The Philippines imported 2.06 million tonnes, plummeting 28.29% from last year and 37.97% from January. Vietnam's imports stood at 2 million tonnes, declining 25.92% YoY and 6.22% MoM.
For the first two months of 2026, Indonesia's total seaborne coal exports reached 74.46 million tonnes, down 5.36% compared to the same period last year. Exports to China during January-February totaled nearly 30.2 million tonnes, a decrease of 2.51% on year.
