U.S. coal output estimated to rise 5.69% WoW in wk ending Dec 27, EIA
Coal production in the U.S. was estimated to rebound 5.69% from week-ago low levels to 9.43 million short tons (8.55 million tonnes) over the week ending December 27, according to data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA) on January 2. The figure was up 11.66% from the previous year.
Coal production in Wyoming and Montana combined was estimated to be 4.17 million short tons in the given period, up 4.58% on the week and 18.9% year on year.
Illinois's coal output was estimated to increase 14.75% week on week while decline 2.2% on the year to 613,500 short tons in the same period, while coal production in Appalachia was estimated at 2.8 million short tons, up 5.45% from a week earlier and 7.77% from a year ago.
U.S. coal output totaled 528 million short tons in the year to date, a 4 % rise from 507 million short tons in the same period last year, the EIA data showed.
U.S. rail coal shipments were 55,823 wagons over the week, growing 4,289 from a week ago and 5,036 from the preceding year. The year-to-date rail coal shipments totaled 3.01 million wagons, up 2.7% year on year.
