India targets 100-GW wind capacity by 2030 after record installations
India is targeting 100 GW of installed wind power capacity by 2030, building on record installations in the FY2026, according to Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi.
The country had 59.2 GW of installed wind power capacity as of September 30, with annual installations reached a record of 6.05 GW in the FY2026.
"We are confident that annual wind energy installations will surpass this record in FY2027, marking another important milestone in India's wind energy journey," Joshi said during the Windergy India 2026, citing a strong project pipeline and supportive policy framework as factors underpinning the sector's expansion.
State governments were recognized for facilitating land access, securing timely clearances, and resolving right-of-way issues to advance wind energy projects.
The event also saw the announcement of several initiatives: a global memorandum of understanding between the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA) and the Bundesverband WindEnergie, a letter of intent between IWTMA and the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt, and a collaboration between IWTMA and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. These initiatives aim to advance technological development in India's wind sector.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Energy Minister C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar highlighted the state's role in wind energy development, including efforts to promote a state repowering policy.
