China's raw coal output fell in May compared with a year earlier, while daily average production also declined from both the previous month and the same period last year.

The National Bureau of Statistics reported on June 16 that raw coal output in May 2026 stood at 397.22 million tonnes, down 1.7% year on year and up 3.01% from the previous month.

Daily average output in May was 12.81 million tonnes, down 0.31% from April's 12.85 million tonnes, and down 1.54% from a year earlier.

For the first five months of 2026, cumulative raw coal output reached 1,980.43 million tonnes, down 0.3% compared with the same period last year, with the decline widening by 0.2 percentage points from the January-April period.
