Mongolia proposes to raise coal exports to China to 100 Mt in high-level talks
Mongolian Prime Minister G. Zandanshatar has proposed to increase the country's coal exports to China to 100 million tonnes annually during a meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Moscow on November 19.
During the meeting, G. Zandanshatar said the country is ready to increase the physical volume of coal exported to China. The leader expressed readiness to phase in the construction of cross-border railways at ports such as Shivee Khuren–Ceke, Khangi-Mandula and Bichigt-Zhuengadabuqi.
He also emphasized the importance of aligning the development plans and construction projects of the two countries.
Li said he is confident that relations and cooperation between the two countries will develop steadily over the long term, and that China's vast market will always remain open to Mongolia.
Beyond the coal proposal, the Mongolian leader also suggested diversifying the trade structure between the two countries, and raising bilateral trade to $20 billion by increasing the number of quarantine protocols for agricultural products.
Additionally, the two parties also underscored the need to advance the construction of a natural gas pipeline from Russia to China through Mongolian territory, as mutually agreed by the heads of state of the three countries.
